Fundamental to Dave’s success in business was his approach to continuous learning, principled leadership and providing opportunities to the people around him. Dave’s desire to bring Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) to more people coincides with the current need for more prevention and early intervention in the mental well-being of young people. To meet this need, the Werklund Foundation has supported the start-up of a new nonprofit led by Dr. Gina Cherkowski.
The Werklund Institute for Social and Emotional Intelligence (WISEI) is a new national centre advancing research, education, and applied practice in social and emotional learning. WISEI works with educators, organizations, and communities to translate evidence-based SEL into real-world impact, in schools, workplaces, and systems that shape everyday life.
