Our Approach
The Foundation’s mission is to transform communities by inspiring youth to achieve their full potential.
The Foundation’s current focus is to support charities to reduce barriers and create opportunities for youth (ages 9 to 22) to obtain the skills they need for their future, including:
- Practical Skills for Jobs
- Life Skills to Prepare Youth for Independent Living
- Social and Emotional Learning
- Leadership Skills
- Skills in Civic and Community Engagement
Principles that underpin our grant giving:
- Social Impact and Learning: We support organizations that demonstrate a commitment to understanding their social impact to deliver highly effective programs for the youth they serve.
- Trust-Based Approach: We build trust in charities through a thorough due diligence process, which enables a partnership between the Foundation and the charity, and a commitment to open and engaged conversations about successes and challenges.
The Werklund Foundation is currently not accepting new applications; we have a number of projects we are supporting, and we are working on an invitation-only model for the foreseeable future. Any changes to that approach will be updated on the website.
